The El Rey
The El Rey movie theatre where where Reggie worked is located at 5515 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036, and has been a live music venue since 1994.
The photos below show the El Rey as it looks today. Night of the Comet fan James Reeno was kind enough to supply these photos.
The Alley
Going from the description by Production Designer John Muto from his commentary on the Blu-ray release, the Alley where Larry meets his demise and where Reggie encounters her first comet-Zombie is most likely the alley in between Ivar and Cosmo Street behind Cinespace, on Hollywood Boulevard.
The same Alley was used in the film Valley Girl, pictured right, (also produced by Wayne Crawford).
The Dorothy Chandler Junction
Near the beginning of the film when Reggie flees downtown LA on her boyfriend’s motorcycle, she comes to a stop beside a brown Mercedes 300D. The street is Grand Avenue, and the location is about 100 yards south of the Dorothy Chandler, looking south. The Mercedes belonged to writer/director Thom Eberhardt.
The Belmont Sisters’ House
The address for Reggie and Sam’s house is 19174 Dunure Place, San Fernando Valley, CA.
and across the street…

The Bank of America Plaza
The scene at the end of the film, where Reggie takes photos of the kids, takes place at the Bank of America Plaza, 333 South Hope Street, Los Angeles. The crossing in the road is where DMK nearly runs over Sam.
Union Bank
“It appears that there was a structure (that the girls were standing on) that had similar design LIKE the Public Library across the street from the Library (hence the sconce design). They are standing on a mezzanine that is no longer there. The US Bank building and plaza is now there with outdoor escalators. I don’t know what year that was built….probably the 90s. They would be standing on the first mezzanine (first escalator level) on the NE street side of W 5th Street.
Below are two mock-up images from Google Earth and Maps showing the angle (which puts the girls on a the second floor off the street) and line-of-site.
The camera would have been setup approximately right in the middle of W 5th Street in front of the US Bank Building which is the tallest building in LA right now.”
The Radio Station
The Radio Station Antenna is located on Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA.
The Radio Station Exterior shot looks likely to be located on 320 Boyd Street, Los Angeles, CA.
Automated Clown
The automated clown shown as part of the morning after the comet was most likely the Community Auto Center at 6800 Melrose Avenue.
School Yard
The school shown during the morning after the comet is Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School in Rosemead, Burbank (thanks to Robert Patterson).
Shopping Mall
The Shopping Mall featured in Night of the Comet was Bullocks Wilshire, 3050 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles.
