This weekend (29 March 2014) sees Flicks for Fans and Arrow in the Head’s Lethal Ladies of Horror Film Festival take place in California.
Hosted in the famed art deco-themed 1940s built Crest Theatre in Westwood, CA, the festival programme boasts a 35mm screening of Night of the Comet as well as personal appearances by both Comet stars Kelli Maroney and Catherine Mary Stewart.
A rather nice fan tribute video to Night of the Comet by YouTube user bubbajacks0877 has been added to the Fan Section of the site. The video, which plays like an extended trailer for the film, has clearly been made with great affection for the film.
For UK fans of a certain generation, their first exposure to Night of the Cometwas thanks to the BBC2 series, Moviedrome. Each week, director Alex Cox (Repo Man) would introduce a cult film before screening it. Starting in 1988, the original series ran on Sunday nights every summer through to 1994. At 11.45pm on 9 July 1989, the feature was Night of the Comet. Thanks to YouTube user Jim Lynn, you can now watch the original Alex Cox introduction from that show.
The Memorabilia section of the site continues to expand, this month sees the addition of a postcard-sized invitation for the infamous nightclub, Studio 54. Dating from 20 November 1984 the invite is for a party in honour of the (at the time) recently released film, Night of the Comet (the film was released on 16 November 1984) featuring “A new music evening of film, video and artwork”.
We’d love to hear from anyone who attended this event
A sequel or remake for Night of the Comet is something that a lot of Comet fans are crying out for. Comet fan Tommy (Valor1387 on DeviantArt) went so far as to create a concept poster for how he envisioned the remake to look.
